Tuesday, May 8th is National Teacher Day and the private tutors at REACH Professional In-Home Tutoring want to do our part to show our deepest gratitude for the educators that are helping to mold the minds of our children.
When asked if she felt appreciated as a teacher, one of our private reading tutors in Huntington Beach stated “It sometimes feels like the public doesn’t truly understand how much work goes into being a teacher. Our day isn’t over at 3 P.M. when the kids go home. We spend hours of our free time preparing lesson plans, grading papers, and doing evaluations. We also spend hundreds of dollars of our own money each year for classroom necessities.”
Most people would agree that teaching is a rewarding, but tough job. With that in mind, we have put together a list of ways that you can make your children’s teacher feel appreciated on National Teacher day.
A Handwritten Note
An expensive gift isn’t necessary to show gratitude to a teacher. Taking the time to write a short note of appreciation goes a long way toward making an educator feel acknowledged for their hard work. As mentioned above, teaching can sometimes feel like a thankless job. Some parents have a tendency to only reach out to their child’s teacher when something is amiss, so reaching out to give praise is always welcome and suggested.
Starbucks Gift Card
This is toward the top of the list because coffee is the life force of most teachers. With all of the late nights, early mornings, and stressful days, picking up their coffee tab for a few days is a heaven send!
“I appreciate every gift that students and parents give me because I know they come from the heart. But if I’m being honest, I don’t need any more apple sculptures, flowers, coffee mugs, or lotion sets. I know some people think that gift cards are tacky or impersonal, but they are my absolute favorite because I can choose exactly what I want!” Said one teacher who also serves as a Math tutor in Newport Beach.
Massage Gift Certificate
Nothing says teacher appreciation quite like the rest and rejuvenation that a massage provides. In fact massage gift certificates came up with almost every teacher we talked to! We understand that this gift idea can be pricey, so we suggest pooling your money with a few other parents to help alleviate some of the cost. Groupon can also help to
Amazon Gift Card
We talked to multiple teachers who expressed that Amazon gift cards are at the top of their wishlist. One teacher mentioned that she usually uses the Amazon gift cards that parents give her as gifts to order supplies for the classroom. She stated that the convenience of being able to have items delivered saves time and prevents undue stress.
